Eymoutiers has some of the finest examples of mediaeval building in the region. Pierre-Auguste Renoir was born in Limoges in 1841 where he began his artistic career painting the world famous Limoges china. Museums of the Resistance in Limoges and Peyrat commemorate the exploits of the region’s maquis, who liberated Limoges this part of France in 1944. Musee Rene Bouberot in Chateauponsac: 24 rooms show carefully reconstructed lively scenes of XIX century life in this Limousin region. Meteorite Centre in Rochehouart has an exhibition on the huge meteorite that landed here. Minerology Museum in Eymoutiers exhibits collections of stones, gold and other minerals from this former mining area and from all over the world. |

Paul Robeyrolle Centre in Eymoutiers presents the art and sculptures of Paul Robeyrolle (1926-2005), one of the major painters of the twentieth century. Paul Rebyrolle was born in Eymoutiers.
In June 1944 the entire population of Oradour-sur-Glane was brutally massacred by retreating German troops. The village is preserved fully intact as it was left after the massacre . Adjoining it is a very interesting interpretative centre.
